Norfolk Police Are Hiring Polygraph Examiners

Applications are invited for the above post in the Public Protection Unit within the Norfolk Safeguarding and Investigations Command at Norwich or Swaffham.
The successful applicant will conduct Polygraph tests, primarily on Registered Sex Offenders (RSO) to identify previously unknown information or suspected information about a RSO in relation to the risk they pose to members of the community and enable a risk assessment, prioritisation and recommendation to be made on risk level and management of offenders, linking to the Active Risk Management System (ARMS). Over time other subjects requiring risk assessment will be added to the program where polygraph is assessed as a useful tool to manage risk.
It is essential that applicants meet the following criteria:
PIP2 accreditation and MOSOVO trained or willingness to undertake the necessary training to attain this
American Polygraph Association accreditation via approved course or willingness to undertake the necessary course to attain this
Good understanding of Public Protection crime types, especially sex offenders and those that exploit the vulnerable
Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to individuals at all levels, remaining clam, clear and objective in difficult circumstances
Excellent time management skills and the ability to work on own initiative to prioritise workloads and make decisions
Experience of working in unpleasant or difficult circumstances and with ability to cope with distressing information
Excellent communication skills are required along with the ability to work effectively as part of a small team
Good ICT skills are a necessity for this post which would encompass application of national systems (ViSOR)
The post holder will be required to travel as part of their duty (and transport secure equipment) therefore a full UK driving licence is essential
Ability to undertake low risk safety training due to the requirement to visit RSOs outside of police premises
It is desirable that applicants meet the following criteria:
An understanding of law and procedures relating to the Sex Offenders Act, PACE, and other Acts that relate to the management of RSO’s, Potentially Dangerous Persons and other Violent Offenders in the Community
Ability to undertake risk assessments of situations and people
Previous experience of interviewing and investigation
Hours of work are 37 per week Monday to Friday, however the job-holder may be requested to work some unsocial hours including evenings and weekends. This post is offered on a permanent basis.
Due to the training investment necessary for this job, the jobholder will be restricted from moving/applying for other posts internally within three years of taking up this role, or will otherwise be responsible for repaying all or part of the initial training costs incurred on the basis as stipulated below. If the job-holder terminates their employment to take up new employment outside of the Constabulary (*) they will likewise be responsible for repaying all or part of the initial training costs incurred as stipulated below. (*) Note that personal circumstances will be taken into account.
Within one year of taking up the role: full cost incurred of the initial training provided
Within two years’ of taking up the role: 50% of the cost incurred of the initial training provided
Within three years’ of taking up the role: 25% of the cost incurred of the initial training provided
Consideration will be given to whether the post can be delivered on either a part time or job share basis, in line with the organisational requirements of this role.
